About Adi Kailash Om Parvat Yatra
Chhota Kailash Yatra – Spirituality, High-Altitude Adventure & Divine Darshan in the Kumaon Himalayas
The Adi Kailash Om Parvat Yatra is one of the most spiritually enriching journeys in the Indian Himalayas. Often referred to as the "Chhota Kailash Yatra," this sacred expedition takes you close to the Indo-Tibet border in Uttarakhand, offering a rare and deeply moving opportunity to witness the divine Adi Kailash peak and the mystical Om Parvat — all within Indian territory.
A Pilgrimage Through Remote Kumaon Himalaya
This 6-day yatra package is designed for pilgrims and adventure seekers who wish to experience the highest levels of spirituality alongside raw Himalayan beauty. Starting from Delhi, the journey takes you through scenic hill towns like Pithoragarh and Dharchula, running alongside the sacred Kali River, before reaching remote Himalayan villages like Gunji and Nabi near the Indo-Nepal and Indo-Tibet borders. Every kilometre of this route unfolds a new layer of natural grandeur and spiritual depth.
Om Parvat – The Sacred Snow Symbol
The undisputed highlight of this yatra is the darshan of Om Parvat at Nabidhang. Here, a natural formation of snow appears on the mountain face in the unmistakable shape of the sacred "ॐ" (Om) symbol — a phenomenon considered a divine miracle of nature. Standing at 20,312 ft (6,191 m), Om Parvat is one of the most awe-inspiring sights in the Himalayas and holds profound religious significance for devotees of Lord Shiva.
Adi Kailash – The Earthly Abode of Lord Shiva
Adi Kailash, also known as Chhota Kailash, is believed to be the earthly abode of Lord Shiva. The trek to Adi Kailash includes a visit to the serene Parvati Sarovar and Gauri Kund, both surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks. The peaceful spiritual energy of this region, combined with its dramatic landscape, creates an experience that stays with you long after you return. Travellers may also be fortunate enough to receive a Mount Kailash darshan, subject to government permissions.
Itinerary Highlights & Practical Information
The itinerary also includes visits to Nabidhang, Kalapani, and the sacred Kali Temple, as well as local temple sightseeing around Pithoragarh. The journey concludes with a blessed stop at Kainchi Dham, the famous ashram of Neem Karoli Baba, adding yet another spiritual dimension to the trip. Since the route passes close to international borders, an inner line permit and valid government-issued ID are mandatory for all travellers. Accommodation includes hotels, homestays, and cottages, with breakfast and dinner provided throughout. Most of the journey is covered by road, keeping the overall difficulty level at moderate and making it accessible to beginners with basic fitness.
