About Bhrigu Lake Trek
High-altitude alpine lake, lush meadows & panoramic Pir Panjal views near Manali
The Bhrigu Lake Trek is one of the most popular short Himalayan treks near Manali, offering breathtaking views, lush alpine meadows, and a high-altitude lake experience. Located in Himachal Pradesh, this trek package is perfect for beginners and adventure enthusiasts who want to explore the beauty of the Himalayas within a short duration.
Starting from Manali – Gateway to the Himalayas
The Bhrigu Lake Trek begins from Manali Mall Road, one of the most famous hill stations in Himachal Pradesh. From here, you drive to Gulaba, which serves as the starting point of the trek. The journey itself is scenic, with views of pine forests, valleys, and snow-capped peaks along the way.
Gulaba to Rola Kholi – Into the Alpine Meadows
On the first trekking day, the trail from Gulaba to Rola Kholi Base Camp covers approximately 6 km through oak and cedar forests before opening into wide alpine meadows. As you ascend, you are rewarded with stunning views of Solang Valley and the surrounding peaks. The campsite at Rola Kholi offers a peaceful environment and beautiful sunset views.
Bhrigu Lake Summit – 14,100 ft High-Altitude Lake
The second day is the highlight of the trek. Starting early, you ascend steeply along a rocky trail followed by a ridge walk with 360-degree panoramic views of the Pir Panjal mountain range. At 14,100 ft (4,298 m), Bhrigu Lake is considered sacred and is known for its ever-changing appearance — frozen edges with a unique ice ring in June, and deep turquoise blue in October.
Seasonal Beauty & Mythological Significance
The lake is named after the sage Bhrigu Rishi and holds great mythological significance. The surrounding meadows are among the most beautiful high-altitude grasslands in Himachal Pradesh, carpeted with wildflowers during summer months.
Descent & Return to Manali
The final day involves descending back to Gulaba through the scenic trail and driving back to Manali. The descent is faster but requires careful footing. Along the way, you can stop at local tea stalls and enjoy the Himalayan scenery one last time before concluding the trek.
