Day-wise Itinerary

Complete 5-day plan – Delhi to Sagar Village, Rudranath Temple, Bugyals & Kalpeshwar

01Day

Delhi to Sagar Village (Overnight Journey)

Duration: Full Day Travel | Altitude: ~1,500 m. Depart from Delhi in the evening and begin the overnight drive to Sagar Village via Rishikesh — the base camp and starting point for the Rudranath Trek. The route passes through the spiritual town of Rishikesh and continues through the scenic Garhwal valleys. Arrive at Sagar Village by morning, check in to the guesthouse, freshen up, and rest before the trek begins. Overnight stay at Sagar Village.

02Day

Sagar Village to Leuti / Pannar Bugyal

Distance: 10–12 KM | Duration: 6–7 Hours | Altitude: Gradual ascent. Begin the trek from Sagar Village, climbing gradually through dense oak and rhododendron forests alive with birdsong and vibrant flora. The trail steadily opens into beautiful alpine meadows — the Leuti or Pannar Bugyal — offering expansive panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks. Set up camp in the bugyals as the Himalayan sunset paints the peaks in golden light. Overnight camping at Bugyal.

03Day

Leuti / Pannar Bugyal to Rudranath Temple

Distance: 6–7 KM | Duration: 4–5 Hours | Altitude: ~3,600 m (11,800 ft). Trek from the bugyals to the sacred Rudranath Temple — the highest of the Panch Kedar temples, uniquely set inside a natural rock cave where the face of Lord Shiva is worshipped. The approach reveals increasingly dramatic views of Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Chaukhamba with every step. Attend the deeply moving evening aarti at the temple as the hymns echo across the high Himalayan landscape. Overnight stay near the temple.

04Day

Rudranath Temple to Sagar Village (Return Trek)

Distance: 12–14 KM | Duration: 6–7 Hours | Altitude: Descending. After morning darshan at Rudranath Temple, begin the return descent through the bugyals and forests back to Sagar Village. The longer descent covers 12–14 km and offers a fresh perspective on the stunning landscapes seen during the ascent. The trail passes through meadows carpeted with Himalayan wildflowers before re-entering the forest zone. Arrive at Sagar Village by evening for a well-earned dinner and rest. Overnight stay at Sagar Village.

05Day

Sagar Village to Kalpeshwar Temple & Return to Delhi

Distance: 1 KM trek | Duration: Short trek + full day drive. Drive from Sagar Village to the serene Urgam Valley to visit Kalpeshwar Temple — the only Panch Kedar open throughout the year. A short 1 km walk leads to this ancient cave shrine where the matted locks (jata) of Lord Shiva are worshipped. After darshan, begin the return drive to Rishikesh and onwards to Delhi. Arrive in Delhi by late evening, concluding the spiritual and adventure journey through two of the Himalayas' most sacred trails.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common queries about Kalpeshwar – Rudranath Trek

The starting price of the Kalpeshwar – Rudranath Trek package is ₹12,999 per person. This includes transportation from Rishikesh to Sagar Village and return, all meals (breakfast and dinner), trek leader, local guide, support staff, first aid, and toll taxes.

The trek is rated Moderate to Difficult — one of the more challenging Panch Kedar routes. The ascent and descent sections each cover 10–14 km per day over consecutive days. Good physical fitness, stamina, and endurance are essential. Only physically prepared beginners should attempt it.

The total trekking distance is approximately 30–34 km — comprising the ascent via bugyals (10–12 km), the approach to Rudranath Temple (6–7 km), the full return descent (12–14 km), and the short Kalpeshwar Temple visit (1 km). This is spread across 4 active trekking days.

The maximum altitude reached is approximately 11,800 ft (3,600 m) at Rudranath Temple. The base village Sagar is at around 1,500 m, making this a significant altitude gain that requires acclimatisation awareness and proper hydration throughout the trek.

The best time is May to June and September to October. During these months the weather is pleasant, trails are fully accessible, and skies are clear for mountain views. Rudranath Temple remains closed in winter. Kalpeshwar, however, is uniquely open throughout the year.

Yes, breakfast and dinner are included throughout the trek. Lunch and trail snacks are not included and must be arranged individually. Carrying energy bars, dry fruits, and packed snacks is strongly recommended for the long trekking days.

Yes — Kalpeshwar is the only Panch Kedar temple open all year round. Located in the serene Urgam Valley, it is accessible via a short 1 km trek and can be visited even during winter months when the other four Panch Kedar temples remain closed.

Only physically fit and well-prepared beginners should attempt this trek. Due to its Moderate to Difficult rating and long daily distances, we strongly recommend consistent cardio training — jogging, cycling, or stair climbing — for at least 4–6 weeks before the trek date.
