About Kareri Lake Trek
Glacial lake camping, Dhauladhar views, Nyund stream trail & peaceful Himalayan forest experience in one package
The Kareri Lake Trek is one of the most scenic and beginner-friendly Himalayan treks in Himachal Pradesh. Located near Dharamshala in the Dhauladhar mountain range, this trek offers a perfect combination of dense pine forests, glacial streams, alpine meadows, rocky landscapes, and peaceful camping experiences beside a crystal-clear mountain lake.
Starting from Delhi – Gateway to Dharamshala
The journey begins from Delhi with an overnight AC drive to Dharamshala, one of the most popular hill stations in Himachal Pradesh. Surrounded by cedar forests and snow-covered mountains, Dharamshala serves as the perfect gateway to the Kareri Lake Trek. Trekkers board from RK Ashram Marg Metro Station, Majnu Ka Tilla, or Kashmiri Gate for a comfortable overnight journey.
Nolli Village to Reoti – The Forest Trail
After arriving in Dharamshala, trekkers drive toward Ghera Village for freshening up, then continue to Nolli Village — the starting point of the trek. The trail passes through dense pine and oak forests alongside the beautiful Nyund Nullah stream, which originates from Kareri Lake itself. The gradual ascent through scenic woodland filled with chirping birds, wooden bridges, and fresh mountain air makes the trail comfortable for beginners.
Reoti Village Base Camp – Bonfire & Stargazing
Reoti Village serves as the base camp for the trek and offers stunning views of the surrounding Himalayan valleys. Camping at Reoti provides trekkers with a peaceful wilderness experience far from city life. Evenings are filled with bonfires, stargazing, and the calming sounds of mountain streams — one of the most cherished parts of the entire trek.
Kareri Lake – The Glacial Jewel at 9,650 ft
The second trekking day leads toward Kareri Lake at 9,650 ft — a stunning freshwater glacial lake fed by melting snow from the Dhauladhar ranges. Surrounded by the majestic Dhauladhar peaks, the crystal-clear lake reflects the surrounding snow-covered mountains, creating a breathtaking Himalayan landscape. Trekkers can also visit the ancient Shiva & Shakti Temple located near the lake, adding spiritual significance to the journey.
Lakeside Camping & Sunrise Views
Camping beside Kareri Lake is one of the most memorable experiences of the trek. During clear nights, trekkers enjoy incredible stargazing and peaceful Himalayan silence under an open sky. The next morning begins with a beautiful sunrise over the lake and Dhauladhar peaks before the descent back to Nolli Village.
