About Madmaheshwar Trek
Panch Kedar Pilgrimage & Alpine Adventure – Hidden Gem of the Garhwal Himalayas at 12,467 ft
The Madmaheshwar Trek is one of the most scenic and spiritually enriching treks in Uttarakhand, offering a perfect blend of adventure, tranquility, and devotion. Nestled deep in the Garhwal Himalayas of the Rudraprayag district, this trek leads to the sacred Madmaheshwar Temple — one of the revered Panch Kedar shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. Away from the crowds of more popular pilgrimage routes, Madmaheshwar remains a truly hidden Himalayan gem.
Trek Route & Trail Highlights
This Madmaheshwar Trek package spans 4 days and 3 nights, making it an ideal short Himalayan escape for trekkers seeking both natural beauty and spiritual connection. Starting from Delhi, the journey passes through the sacred towns of Rishikesh, Devprayag, Rudraprayag, and Ukhimath before reaching the base village of Ransi — the last motorable point. The trek officially begins from Ransi, covering 13 km to Madmaheshwar Temple and an additional 2 km to Buda Madmaheshwar. The well-defined trail passes through charming Himalayan villages like Choti Bantoli and Lower Bantoli, alongside the rushing Madmaheshwar Ganga, through pine forests and into expansive alpine meadows.
The Madmaheshwar Temple & Evening Aarti
The Madmaheshwar Temple itself is a marvel of ancient stone architecture, surrounded by serene mountain streams and towering Himalayan peaks. The peaceful spiritual atmosphere here is unlike anything on the busier pilgrimage circuits. The evening aarti at the temple during trekking season (May to October) is a mesmerizing and deeply moving experience — the chants echoing against the snow-capped mountains as the sun sets over the Chaukhamba massif.
Buda Madmaheshwar – Sunrise Over the Himalayas
A highlight of this Madmaheshwar trek package is the early morning hike to Buda Madmaheshwar at 12,467 ft. This short but steep 2 km ascent rewards trekkers with some of the most spectacular sunrise views over the Chaukhamba massif in all of Uttarakhand. The reflection of snow-covered peaks in the sacred pond here creates a truly magical and unforgettable moment — one that makes the entire journey worthwhile.
