About Pangarchulla Peak Trek
Summit Climb to 15,100 ft | Snow Trails, Bugyals & 360° Views of Nanda Devi, Kamet, Trishul & Chaukhamba
The Pangarchulla Peak Trek is one of the most adventurous summit treks in Uttarakhand, offering trekkers a thrilling Himalayan experience filled with snow-covered trails, alpine meadows, dense forests, and breathtaking 360-degree summit views. Located near Joshimath in the Garhwal Himalayas, this trek is celebrated for its challenging summit push to 15,100 ft (4,603 m) and the extraordinary panorama of some of the highest peaks in India from the top.
Drive to Joshimath & the Trek Begins
The journey begins from Rishikesh with a scenic drive through the sacred river confluences of Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, and Chamoli, following the Alaknanda River through dramatic Himalayan terrain to Joshimath or Karachhi Village at 6,150 ft. From here the trek ascends through dense oak and rhododendron forests — a riot of colour during spring — towards Gulling Base Camp at 9,800 ft, the first overnight camp set amidst scenic meadows with spectacular Himalayan sunset views.
Gulling to Khullara – Alpine Meadows & Peak Views
The ascent to Khullara Base Camp at 11,200 ft passes through open alpine meadows and seasonal snow patches, with increasingly dramatic views of Hathi Parvat, Dronagiri, and Chaukhamba emerging with every gain in altitude. Khullara is one of the most scenic high-altitude campsites in Uttarakhand — surrounded by snow-covered ridges and open mountain panoramas — and serves as the launchpad for the summit push.
Summit Day – The 3 AM Push to 15,100 ft
The most exhilarating day of the entire Pangarchulla Peak Trek begins at 3–4 AM with headlamps cutting through the pre-dawn darkness as trekkers set off on steep snow slopes and rocky terrain toward the summit. The final ridge section demands careful climbing, solid endurance, and mental resolve. The reward at the top is absolutely worth every step — a 360-degree panorama of Nanda Devi, Kamet, Mana Peak, Chaukhamba, and Trishul, with the rising sun illuminating an endless sea of Himalayan peaks in every direction.
