Sar Pass Trek – Snow Trails, Alpine Meadows & Glissading in Parvati Valley
About Sar Pass Trek
Snow Trails, Pine Forests & Glissading Adventures in Parvati Valley, Kasol
The Sar Pass Trek is one of the most popular Himalayan treks in Himachal Pradesh, offering a perfect combination of snow trails, pine forests, scenic meadows, and thrilling mountain adventures. Located in the beautiful Parvati Valley near Kasol, this trek is ideal for beginners as well as experienced trekkers looking for an unforgettable high-altitude trekking experience. With a maximum altitude of 13,845 ft (approx. 4,220 meters), the trek rewards participants with breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayas while remaining accessible for those with basic fitness levels.
Kasol to Grahan – Where the Trail Begins
The journey begins in the charming town of Kasol, often referred to as the "Mini Israel of India." The trail follows the scenic Parvati River and gradually moves toward Grahan Village, a peaceful Himalayan settlement surrounded by dense forests and traditional Himachali culture. The route passes through pine forests, small clearings, and scenic meadows — creating a refreshing trekking experience from the very first day. Each step deeper into the valley reveals a landscape that feels increasingly removed from everyday life.
Mini Thach & Nagaru – Beautiful High-Altitude Campsites
The campsites on the Sar Pass Trek are among the most beautiful in Himachal Pradesh. Mini Thach provides a lush meadow setting with forest views and pleasant weather, while Nagaru Camp at approximately 12,700 ft sits above the treeline with stunning panoramic views of Parvati Valley and Tosh Valley. Waking up at Nagaru with nothing but open sky and mountain peaks in every direction is one of the most memorable moments of the entire trek. The variety of landscapes encountered — lush forests, green meadows, rocky paths, and snow-covered slopes — makes every day feel completely unique.
Sar Pass Summit & Glissading – The Trek's Biggest Thrill
The summit day is the most thrilling part of the Sar Pass Trek itinerary. Trekkers start early in the morning to cross Sar Pass at 13,845 ft while the snow remains firm. The route includes snow trekking, gradual ascents, and one of the most exciting highlights — glissading (sliding down snow slopes on the descent). This exhilarating activity makes the Sar Pass Trek especially popular among adventure seekers and first-time snow trekkers. From the top of the pass, views of snow-covered peaks, alpine valleys, and endless Himalayan ranges stretch in every direction.
Biskeri Thach & Return to Kasol
The descent toward Biskeri Thach passes through rhododendron forests and vast green meadows, creating a beautiful contrast to the snowy mountain terrain above. The final day descends via Pulga village to Barshaini, crossing the Parvati River, before a jeep ride returns trekkers to Kasol. The best time to do the trek is from May to June and September to October, when weather conditions are favorable and the landscapes are at their most spectacular.
