From the quaint village of Jobra, you hike to your campsite at Chika on the Hampta Pass trek route. The next day, begin your climb towards Balu ka Ghera, an alpine meadow surrounded by gigantic peaks. You will be rewarded with beautiful views of the snow-covered peaks and the landscape will change from meadows to boulders. Once you reach the Hampta Pass, at 14,000 feet, you will have reached your final destination. There are some peaceful spots in the Himalayas where you can spend some time at peace.
Continue your trek toward Chatru, one of the main highlights, after exploring Hampta.Located at a junction of roads leading to Shampta Pass, Rohtang Pass, and Spiti Valley, this is the main access point to Spiti Valley.

Hampta Pass is a beautiful crossover trek in Lahaul that connects the lush green valleys of Kullu-Manali to the arid Chandra Valley. The trek offers a unique blend of different landscapes and cultures. The trek passes along rocky paths, grassland, cascading waterfalls, emerald lakes, hanging glaciers, and gushing streams. A close encounter with Buddhism and the lifestyle of the remote Himalayan villages is possible at the confluence of Hampta Pass, Rohtang Pass, and Spiti. In Sethan, you can observe the traditions and cultures of the Tibetan and Spiti immigrants.
A nature lover’s paradise, Hampta Pass is a spectacular trek through a variety of terrains, and the thrill of climbing a dramatic pass adds to the adventure. Detailed Itinerary
We begin the day with a shared jeep transfer from Manali bus stop to Jobra, where our trek guide will brief us on the day’s activities.
There is a 2-kilometer trail along the Rani river through mixed pine, green maple, and birch tree forests.
View the Himalayan topography and stunning rocky hills.
Chika campsite overnight stay.
Getting to Ghera ka Balu from Chika campsite is a pleasant trek.
Get your first glimpse of the outer Himalayan range and the Dhauladhar range.
During the night, spend time at the Balu ka Ghera campsite.
Through Hampta Pass, we trekked from Balu Ka Giera (12,254 feet) to Sheagoru (14,535 feet).
During the early morning trek from Balu Ka Gera to Hampta Pass, you can get panoramic views of the Himalayas.
There is a serene atmosphere at the pass, as well as majestic views.
The path descends narrowly and steeply.
There are often loose stones (scree) covering the path.
By late afternoon, you’ll pitch your tents on the Sheagoru campsite near the Sheagoru river.
At the campsite, you can sleep in tents surrounded by the Himalayan beauty.
Taking the easiest path today, we descend to Chattru (10,898 feet). Chattru campsite is approximately 3 hours away.
Chattru campsite is the perfect place to take a break, have lunch, and relax.
The next destination is Chandratal Lake (14,074 feet) if the weather permits. From Chattru to Chandratal, the drive takes 4-5 hours. At Batal, visit the famous Chacha Chachi ka Dhaba for photos.
Enjoy the beauty of Chandratal, an alpine lake at high altitude. Located in the Spiti valley on the Samudra Tapu plateau, Chandratal is also known as Moon Lake.
Located at 4,290 meters above sea level, the lake has clear blue waters, stunning views of CB-12 peak, and pristine surroundings.
The same route should be followed to return to Chattru after exploring Chandratal. Overnight in tents after dinner.
As you wake up, prepare for Manali’s drive from Chattru.
On the way back to Manali, you will travel through the scenic Rohtang Pass.
Drive along the scenic road and enjoy the view. By evening, you should reach Manali.
Your next destination can be reached from Manali.
What Should I Pack for the Hampta Pass Trek?
- Backpack: It is imperative to have a backpack that is both comfortable and durable in order to transport all of the necessary provisions and equipment for the trek. Look for a backpack with adequate support, padding, and ventilation.
- A pair of trekking shoes that are suitable for the high altitudes and rugged terrain is indispensable. Search for footwear that is capable of withstanding rough terrain, has waterproofing, and provides adequate ankle support.
- It's important to bring rain gear like a waterproof jacket and pants in case it rains in the Himalayas because the weather can change quickly.
- Sunscreen and sunglasses: It is crucial to carry sunscreen with a high SPF and sunglasses to safeguard the skin and eyes from the harsh UV rays, as the sun can be intense at high altitudes.
- Water bottles: It is crucial to maintain hydration while trekking at high altitudes. It is recommended to carry a minimum of two water bottles and a water purification system, such as a water filter or tablets.
- Snacks: It is crucial to bring high-energy snacks, such as energy bars, nuts, and dried fruits, for fast energy boosts, as trekking at high altitudes can be physically taxing.
- First aid kit: It is essential to have a first aid kit that is adequately stocked with medicines, bandages, antiseptics, and pain relievers in the event of an injury or illness during the expedition.
- Headlamp or torch: To navigate in the dark, you need carry a headlamp or torch.
- Toiletries for personal use: Toiletries for personal hygiene, including toothpaste, toothbrushes, hand sanitizer, and damp wipes, should be transported.

By Road
The regular bus service between Delhi and Dehradun departs from Delhi's (ISBT Kashmere Gate). If you are going to take a bus from (ISBT Kashmere Gate), we suggest you take only government buses. It is not trustworthy to take private buses outside of ISBT. In most cases, buses drop you at Dehradun ISBT. You will need to travel to the Dehradun Station via Ola/Uber Cab, Vikram, Tata Sumo, or similar vehicles at 6:00am.
Best Time / Season To Hampta Pass Trek
In the summer and autumn, the Bali Pass Trek is best undertaken before or after the monsoon. During these periods, there is favorable weather and clear views of the stunning landscape.
Bali Pass Trek is best enjoyed between May and June (pre-monsoon) and September and October (post-monsoon). The weather is best during these periods, as well as the scenery, and it is an unforgettable experience to trek during these periods.
