Rupin Pass Trek Itinerary

Quick Itinerary

Detailed Itinerary

Starting out from Dehradun on the 1st day of your trek toward Rupin pass, you’ll head towards Dhaula, where the weather won’t be as cold, and you’ll enjoy the pleasant sight of hills. On the way to Dhaula, the roads are beautiful and you steadily gain altitude. There are deep valleys and dense forest cover to keep you company. From Dehradun Railway Station, transport will be organized at an additional cost to Dhaula. You will have to reach Dehradun on your own. Approximately 10 hours are required to drive there.

Getting started on the Rupin Pass trek is easy. A journey from Dhaula to Sewa takes around 5-6 hours. A trail through the forest crosses the Rupin and follows an undulating path. As you trek through the apple and apricot trees, you will be mesmerized by the views of Rupin falling from the peak. After you grasp the beauty of Rupin falling from the peak, trek along an ascending trail through the apple and apricot trees.
As soon as the trail crosses this section, it becomes steep. An employee of a local shop runs the shop. A few steps ahead is a temple made in Kinnauri style, from which you can gain a deeper understanding of Kinnaur culture. A temple was built in Karna’s honor by the villagers here in his memory. Here at this picturesque location, you can set up the camps, have your meals, and retire for the night.

Gradually, the trek today increases in difficulty from moderate to difficult. Our team will instruct you for the day since the area en route is prone to landslides and the trail is often variable, adding to the difficulty. An hour-long steep ascent follows 3 hours of moderate walking.
When you become accustomed to the smell, the terrain, and the lighting, you will realize that you have been approaching the river during this phase. After the forest clears, we’ll be trekking along the river instead of beside it, so you’ll have to hop and jump across the numerous streams that form the Rupin.
After passing through the mixed crop fields, you will enter into the forest, walk through the thick forest, and then you will reach near the bridge, which would be so entrancing.
Once you’ve crossed the forest area, continue on the narrow trail, passing by snow-covered mountains on the ascent. There is a village called Jiskun further down. “Upper Jiskun” and “Lower Jiskun” are the two parts of this beautiful village.
Continue going until you reach the last village Jakha and cross the river Rupin. The trek today was long, so put up your tents and relax.

Following breakfast, move on to your next campsite, “Udaknal.” As you go through a forest of pine trees, you will notice something different. It will be surrounded by Fir trees. The trail begins with a moderate ascent up to Jiskun, then descends towards the dense forest, where you can find the wooden bridge. Ascending in a zig-zag pattern from the bridge, you can also refill your bottles at the river, the final water point of the 4th day. It takes about an hour and a half to climb to a clump of forest after crossing many cascading streams feeding the Rupin. A small open grass area precedes the trail’s entrance into the forest. An immense rivulet emerges from the hillside, gushing pure and clean water. You will find Burans Kandi to be a wonderful place to camp if you don’t mind the cows that graze there.

The journey today will take you through Jhaka village, a thick forest of fir trees standing tall and pristine civilization before you reach Dandreyash Thatch. Continuing your trek, you will notice an island surrounded by lush green grass, as well as Rupin pass waterfall that merges with Rupin River. Now the trail has leveled off, and the walk takes place in meadows. There is a gentle climb through the lush meadows as you walk. A tiny brook gurgles under your boots as you hipety hop over it every few steps. Everywhere you look, wild flowers sprout. Blue, purple, green, yellow, and white are this time’s colors. Rupin gently glides along the valley, its blue color reminiscent of ice. As you descend through green and yellow meadows, after crossing a series of snow-bridges, you arrive at the Dhanderas Thatch valley.
Relax and enjoy one of the most admirable and biggest meadows in Himalayan Range with some fun activities organized by us.

During your trek, today is one of the most important days. It is imperative that you climb the waterfall as an acclimatization climb to prepare for a super successful climb up Rupin pass. It will be the team leader’s responsibility to let you know how to handle the situation. Along the way, you’ll cross many streams of Rupin; you’ll go through marigold flowers to reach the forest waterfall’s snow patches. A view of the waterfall from the top gives you a sense of its actual size. Rupin trails are known for their surprises, and this is one of them. This meadow reaches out to a flat bowl in the distance. Rupin flows from streams fed by the alpine snowy flank that converge on the bowl.
By the end of the day, you’ll feel stronger and more confident about climbing Rupin Pass tomorrow. There is a meadow where you are setting up camp today. Have your food and prepare your tents for tomorrow’s thrilling day. Today was an adventurous day, and tomorrow will be exciting as well.

As it will be a big day for us today, we need to wake up early in the morning. Breakfast should be excellent and hygienic.
Start your trek early, as it is going to be the longest day of your journey. The trail to Rupin Pass, which is 4,650 meters above sea level, is exhilarating. The proper trekking equipment is needed today to climb the pass successfully. In its place, the alpine Dhauladar range, across the valley from your right, replaces your companion, the Rupin valley. Once you reach Rupin Pass, you will be in alpine country with snow fields. Afterward, you will be able to see the Sanglah side of the mountain, where the green, open mountain contrasts beautifully with the snow and alpine behind you. For the night, you will stay in tents after a wonderful day

Our trek today will be a downward climb, but it will be extremely challenging because the trail’s altitude drops rapidly. We will take another bout to make you more accustomed to the sharp descendant, so that you can climb your way downward with greater ease without hurting your foot or knee. As you descend from Ronti Gad to Sangla, you will encounter several small pebbles and rocks that make it more challenging. Featuring vast meadows and a river (a tributary of Baspa) on the right, the trail will be pleasant. Within an hour, you will be able to see the meadows and later, civilization in the village, the weather will warm, and the trail will leave the Ronti Gad valley behind. In Sangla Kanda, there are many trails that lead to Sangla. Take the trail that passes through a forest of blue pines to reach Sangla. The final trail is wide and clearly defined but descends rapidly to Sangla, after 30 minutes you will reach Baspa Village and 20 minutes last climb and you are at the end of the trekking journey, Sangla. You can hire a car from Sangla to Shimla. A bus leaves for Shimla at 5:00 PM and arrives the following day at 3:00 AM. We will arrange transportation from Sangla to Shimla at 2:00 PM at an additional cost. Cabs cost Rs. 7,500 each.

Best Time / Season To Rupin Pass Trek

The Rupin Pass Trek winds through the pristine landscape of the Garhwal Himalayas, one of the most stunning treks in India. Choosing the right season is crucial for experiencing its beauty and ensuring a safe and enjoyable trek. Pre-monsoon and post-monsoon seasons are ideal for Rupin Pass Trekking, specifically May-June and September-October.

It is the best time to enjoy lush greenery and blooming wildflowers from May to June (pre-monsoon season). As the snow melts from the winter months, the rivers and waterfalls along the trek become more vibrant. Temperatures can range from 10°C to 20°C during the day and drop as low as 0°C at night. The weather is ideal for trekking during this season, with clear skies and moderate temperatures. You should, however, be prepared for some snow patches at higher elevations.

In September and October (Post-Monsoon Season), the landscape is refreshed and the air is crisp. The peaks are clear during this season, making it a paradise for photographers and nature enthusiasts. There are similar temperatures to those of the pre-monsoon season, with daytime temperatures ranging from 10°C to 20°C and nighttime temperatures dropping to 0°C. Trails are less crowded during the winter than during the summer, allowing for a more serene trekking experience.

There are unique charms to both seasons, but being prepared for unpredictable mountain weather is essential. Warm clothing, rainproof gear, and sturdy trekking boots are essential. It is unsafe to trek during the monsoon season (July and August) because the trails are slippery and prone to landslides. In addition, the winter months (November to April) bring heavy snowfall, which sometimes makes the trek impossible.

Generally, the best time to undertake the Rupin Pass Trek is during May to June, or September to October, when the weather is most favorable.
