Due to the soil here not holding much water, the flowers bloom immediately after the first rains, as it is the major source of moisture.

Throughout the valley floor, balsam, anemones, blue poppy, brahma kamals, primulas, asters, and many more bloom in mid-August. Observers are able to identify a few species of carnivorous species that feed off insects, but they can’t feed on insects themselves. In the Himalayas, there is a stunning valley known as ‘Valley of Flowers’. The Himalayas are home to many varieties of wildflowers. During the monsoon seasons, the valley floor is covered with a carpet of vibrant colors! There is an awesome sight of colours against a contrasting background of majestic peaks. West Himalayas are home to the Valley of Flowers, a national park. This picturesque location in Uttarakhand is surrounded by rivers on either side and is best known for its meadows of wild flowers native to the mountains. Lake Himganga is fed by glaciers on Hathi Parvat and Saptrishi peaks, and a stream flows from the lake. Sikh Guru Govind Singh meditated on the bank of this lake in one of his earlier lives, as mentioned in Granth Sahib.

Valley of Flowers and Hemkund are accessible from a pilgrim hamlet called Govind Ghat just beyond Joshimath. There are several scenic rivers along the way, including Shrinagar , Ganga, Alaknanda, and Mandakini. On the way to Devprayag, stop at Devprayag. The holy Ganges river originates at the confluence of the rivers Alaknanda and Bhagirathi. On a Badrinath highway, leave Haridwar or Rishikesh early in the morning and travel along River Alakananda. Joshimath is about a 10-hour drive from Haridwar. During the evening, stop at Govindghat for the night.

We will drive you to a nearby town called Poolna where we will start our trek to Ghangaria. There is a common trail between Valley of Flower treks and Hemkund treks all the way to Ghangria. The trek to reach Ghangaria (3,049 meters / 14 km) begins with a packed lunch. Hemkund Sahib and the Valley of Flowers are visited from Ghangaria, also called GOVIND DHAM. Along the river, the trek from Govind Ghat to Ghangria runs for 13 km. You trek for 6-7 hours and come to a tabular land.

Make sure you leave Ghangria early (6 am) so you can spend the entire day at the Valley of Flowers. After less than a kilometer, there is a gate where entry tickets to the valley can be purchased.
Botanists’ dreamland, the valley offers a wide range of plant species. Further down the valley, a glacier can be seen at a distance, spanning another 5-7 km. Streams flow through the valley all the way to the sea. If you are trekking in the Valley of Flowers, make sure you carry a packed lunch from Ghangria. Food is not available in the valley, and overnight camping is not permitted. It is recommended that you return along the same route by mid-afternoon.
The afternoon sun falling on the valley from a different direction, gives a whole new perspective to the same place you saw in the morning.

Starting early in the morning, trek 7 kilometers to reach the shrine of “HEMKUND SAHIB”. The highest Gurudwara in the world, The Hemkund Sahib, is located at an altitude of 4,329 meters. It is regarded as the holiest of Sikh shrines. In about an hour, you will reach Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara after a steep climb. It is located just behind the lake. Hemkund Sahib’s lake remains frozen for six months in the winter. The Gurudwara provides generous servings of hot tea and khichdi.
Hemkund Lake can be viewed from the other side by walking around. Serenity and peace permeate the lake. The water is crystal clear, undisturbed, and reflects mountains. Lakes with crystal clear water, reflected in tall mountains, and the Gurudwara are spectacular sights. It is common to see Brahma Kamal growing abundantly around Hemkund, the Himalayan flower.
Early afternoon is the best time to leave Hemkund. It can be a strenuous walk down, especially for those with weak knees or toes. The 7 km walk takes between 4 and 5 hours. During the evening, you are free to rest and relax in camp. Stay the night.

It is best to start early by 6am, so you can be down at Govind Ghat by 11am. You can proceed to Badrinath/Joshimath-Auli or stay at Govind Ghat and leave the next morning.

Haridwar is a short drive away. Since the weather in the mountains is unpredictable, it is recommended that you keep a buffer day. Stay the night in Haridwar. The next day, you can explore Haridwar and then take a train to Delhi.

How to Reach Valley Of Flowers Trek?

By Air

Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is the nearest airport to Haridwar. By bus or taxi, Haridwar is approximately 37 km away. Ambala - Haridwar - Dehradun road via NH 34 and NH 37 takes approximately one to two hours. 

By Train

In Haridwar, there is a railway station called Haridwar Junction Railway Station. Haridwar is connected with most major Indian cities by regular trains, making it an easy and affordable option for visitors. Among the trains that run between Haridwar and New Delhi, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, etc., there is the Mussoorie Express, Upasana Express, Doon Express, as well as Ahmedabad-Haridwar Express. 

By Road

During the spring season of Har ki Dun trek, you will witness the landscape view, the Supin riverside, and other blooms of the region. October and November are the best months to do the trek. For an adventurous and thrilling journey to Har Ki Dun, choose the trek between March to April or November to December if you’re looking for snow in Har Ki Dun. During the day, Har Ki Dun’s temperature is around 13 degrees Celsius, but at night, it is only 2 degrees Celsius. During the months of December and mid-January, the temperature in Har Ki Dun Trek ranges from 3°C to -4°C, while in February, it ranges from -6°C to -11°C. Summer temperatures range from 21 to 26 degrees Celsius during the day, and from 10 to 5 degrees Celsius at night.
